A 21-year-old man was also taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The vehicle that struck the two pedestrians remained at the scene.

Police are reminding drivers to slow down and for pedestrians to make sure there is no traffic before crossing the road.

“Pedestrians, we know it’s not against the law to cross the roadway. However, if you are going to cross the roadway in a mid-block fashion, do it carefully,” Const. Clint Stibbe said.

“Ensure that when you step on the road, there’s no risk. When I say that, if you think you can make it, don’t do it. Because the chances of you being struck by a vehicle increases. If you step on the roadway and there are no cars there, obviously there’s no chance of you being struck.”
