Elderly woman fights off sexual assault in her Saskatoon home

An elderly woman fought off a man who attempted to sexually assault her in her Saskatoon home early Monday morning.

The 78-year-old woman told Saskatoon police she woke up just before 1 a.m. CT to find an unknown man in her bed in her home in the 1400-block of Avenue M South.

She told officers he tried to sexually assault her but she was able to fight him off and he fled.

She was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

A shirtless man was found walking nearby by a police dog unit.

An officer said the man refused to listen to his commands and went out of sight.

The police dog was released and tracked the man down.

He was treated by paramedics for dog bites and taken to hospital for further treatment.

Police said while he was being treated, he spit on officers.

The 28-year-old man is charged with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, break and enter, and assaulting police officers.
