An urgent call for food donations by the Central Okanagan Food Bank has been fulfilled in a big way.
“I’ve been a B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive volunteer for seven years, but as I watched the amount of food donations arrive at the food bank, I knew that I was experiencing something special,” volunteer Debbie Morris said.
The 2017 B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive in the central Okanagan resulted in a record 94,000 lbs of food being collected this past Saturday.
Earlier in the month, the food bank made an appeal for donations saying this year’s food drive was more important than ever because of this spring and summer’s floods and fires, which led to a significant decrease in donations.

Normally in the summer months, the Central Okanagan Food Bank collects some 200,000 lbs of food. This year the donations were half of that.
The 2017 food drive in the central Okanagan doubled the previous year’s donations.
Volunteers were brought to tears seeing the mountain of food donations.
The food drive brings out an army of volunteers every year who go door-to-door picking up bags of donated food from hundreds of households throughout the central Okanagan.
