The City of Calgary is championing some changes to the municipal election process for 2017, including the creation of candidate profile pages, a “selfie wall” and a drive-up voting booth.

“The drive-up voting location will be at McMahon Stadium and it will look very much like an old-style drive-up burger joint,” the city’s election and census manager Paul Denys said Monday.
“You don’t get a coffee, but you do get to vote.”
Denys said details are coming soon on the drive-up voting booth. He said online candidate profiles will be available Tuesday at noon.

The city is also providing a sticker for everyone who wants to “showcase” the fact they’ve voted.
“We will also have a selfie wall for those of us that are not satisfied by a sticker and want to share it with all their friends on Facebook.”

He also said there will be new voting locations than in the past such as libraries and leisure centres, as well as additional stops on the “Vote Bus.”
“The vote buses are going to be making a return, with additional stops to serve some populations that have not been the target of that particular medium in the past,” said Denys, adding the Drop-In Centre and Kirby Centre will be added to the route.
There will also be free transit tickets for Election Day, which will be printed and sent in a brochure and election guide that will be mailed out to every household in the city.
