Staff Sgt. Tony Farahbakhchian says some drivers are traveling way above the speed limit.

“It’s windy in certain spots. There is limited lighting and visibility, especially at night. If there is anything like heavy rain, or anything like that. Even at the best of times, it’s difficult to see. And people have a tendency to speed along this stretch.”

“We have some of the highest stats in the Lower Mainland for excessive speed tickets that we have given out in the past year. We are vigilant about it. We take this thing very seriously and we don’t want any more fatalities.”

A motorcyclist died in a hit and run collision on Lougheed Highway near 280th St. on Thursday night.

ICBC data shows more than 200 collisions have taken place at the Lougheed Highway-240th St. intersection between 2011 and 2015.
