UPDATE: 10:45 p.m. — Lougheed Highway has reopened between Como Lake and Pitt River Rd.
A fatal, multi-vehicle collision in Coquitlam closed down part of Lougheed Highway on Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses told Global News that it looked like a work truck on the Riverview Lands lost its brakes and rolled on to the highway and plowed into a number of vehicles at around 4:30 p.m.
The BC Coroners Service says two people died in the incident – a man in his 30s and a woman in her 60s. The man was the operator of the truck and the woman was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

“Our collision investigative team will be on scene working on the investigative side so I foresee that it will be a little while through rush hour, so if people could take alternate routes that would be appreciated,” said Cst. Jennifer Goodings with Coquitlam RCMP.
