SQ search for senior who was in car Ugo Fredette stole during amber alert

Quebec provincial police are looking for Yvon Lacasse, 71, who was in the Honda CR-V Ugo Fredette stole during the alleged abduction of his six-year-old son.

Authorities believe the car was stolen in Lachute.

“He [Fredette] could have decided to leave him, we know he went to Maniwaki, he could have left him somewhere,” said Martine Asselin, spokesperson with Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Lacasse is described as bald, with brown eyes, 5″6′ and 155 lb.

The boy was found safe Friday around 5 p.m. in Ontario, nearly 24 hours after an Amber Alert was issued.

His father, Fredette, 41, was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police.

Authorities tracked Fredette from Saint-Eustache to Lachute, Rouyn-Noranda, Maniwaki and Napanee.

He abandoned his white Ford F-150 before getting into a Jeep Cherokee and finally the Honda CR-V.

The Amber Alert was issued after police were called to a residence on Antoine-Seguin Boulevard in Saint-Eustache and found the body of the boy’s mother, 41-year-old Véronique Barbe.

“There would have been a link between both events,” Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokesperson for the SQ, told Global News.

Daniel Barbe, Véronique’s brother, told Global News her doctor had advised her four months earlier that she should separate from Fredette as he had been showing “violent tendencies and acting increasingly bizarre.”
