Central Saanich police have arrested a 31-year-old cyclist after he allegedly kicked a vehicle and caused “significant damage” in the Greater Victoria district.
The incident in question took place on Sept. 12. Steve Bengal was heading northbound on Oldfield Road in Central Saanich when he passed someone on a bike, said a police news release.

The pair exchanged words and when they arrived at the intersection of Oldfield Rd. and Keating Cross Rd., the cyclist was allegedly caught on video kicking the vehicle and reaching inside the window.
A video released by Bengal shows a man making strong motions towards the vehicle before he reaches into the car through the passenger-side window.

The driver then followed the cyclist to Maber Rd. and Stelly’s Cross Rd.
There, they became engaged in another confrontation and the vehicle was damaged even further.
The cyclist, who has not been identified, faces charges of assault and mischief. He was released on a promise to appear, and he’s been instructed not to have contact with the victim.
He’s expected in court on Oct. 25.
The cyclist’s identity won’t be revealed until charges against him are approved, police said.
