Police investigate deadly shooting in northcentral Edmonton

Police said homicide detectives are investigating after an elderly man was found with a gunshot wound inside a north Edmonton residential building on Wednesday night.

According to police, officers were called to a residence in the area of 112 Avenue and 94 Street for a weapons complaint shortly before 6 p.m. after neighbours reported hearing a gunshot.

They said the man was found dead on the floor in a common area in the building. They said a bullethole was also discovered in the door of the home.

Police said the death is being treated as suspicious.

Police did not say if they had made any arrests or if they had any suspects in the shooting.

“I know we have witnesses that were in the building, I don’t know as to where they were,” Insp. Joel Whittaker said, adding police were still looking for witnesses.

On Thursday night, police identified the victim as 76-year-old Nexhmi “Nick” Nuhi.

On Friday afternoon, police said an autopsy confirmed Nuhi died of a gunshot wound.
