It will be a smoky day for most of southern Manitoba on Tuesday.

Environment Canada and Manitoba Health issued a special weather statement about the air quality in the region, which includes Winnipeg.

Westernly winds are spreading wildfire smoke across the Prairies and will continue until a cold front pushes through the region on Tuesday night.

Environment Canada warns people with breathing difficulties to stay indoors and find a cool and ventilated space. People may experience symptoms like coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath.

Environment Canada says children, seniors and those with cardiovascular or lung diseases like asthma are especially at risk.
