Vancouver fire crews had their hands full with an apartment building fire Monday evening.
Assistant Chief John Dennis says the three-alarm blaze quickly spread through the three-storey rooming house near East Hastings and Commercial.

Dennis says, “it’s an older building. What happens with those older buildings is that the fire can travel quickly through the void spaces. They don’t have as much fire block as the modern buildings do today.”
Firefighters were called just before 6 p.m. and managed to get everyone out unharmed.
