A police dog named Maco, and tips from the public helped Salmon Arm RCMP make four arrests last week.
On Sept. 6, shortly before 2 a.m., the Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen pickup truck and trailer from a home.
The owner spotted his stolen truck shortly after, and RCMP called in their K9 member, Maco.
A witness told police they saw two people running from the abandoned truck and trailer.
Maco helped police track the two suspects to a nearby house.
Then police received another tip from the public that two people were looking into vehicles just blocks away.
Maco and his handler were able to track those suspects to a nearby house as well, and RCMP quickly determined those suspects were also involved in the initial theft of the truck and trailer.
One of the suspects attempted to flee after being arrested, but was caught after a short foot pursuit.
He was wanted on four warrants issued in the Yukon.
He will be taken back to the Yukon to answer to those warrants for multiple charges of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, and forcible confinement.
Salmon Arm RCMP would like to thank the members of the public for their tips.
Police also note that Maco the police dog is set to retire soon, and this may well be his last act of duty.
