Death of 16-month-old girl in Cold Lake, Alta. ruled homicide

An autopsy has determined the death of a 16-month-old girl in northeastern Alberta was a homicide.

Veronica Poitras was taken to hospital in Cold Lake by a family member on Aug. 26., RCMP said.

Police said Veronica was taken to an Edmonton-area hospital a short time later.

Three days later, the baby was taken off life support and pronounced dead.

The autopsy was conducted at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on Aug. 30.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Cold Lake is located about 300 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
