Construction worker seriously injured in workplace accident in Chilliwack

A construction worker has been seriously injured after a workplace accident in Chilliwack.

The worker was reportedly shocked when a crane came into contact with overhead hydro wires.

It happened around 9 a.m. at a building site on Luckakuck Way.

Witnesses told Global News the crane was lifting a large metal bar when the boom began to swing wildly.

The bar hit the hydro wire, sending out a huge shower of sparks. They heard what sounded like a large explosion, then a man yelling.

The worker was airlifted to hospital but his current condition is unknown at this time.
