Going public with their love of transit has paid off for two Halifax teens.
A few weeks ago, Global News aired a story about Finn MacDonald and Luke Coward-Yaskiw as they embarked on a journey to ride every bus route in Halifax within two days.
While they came up short in that goal, it was enough to get the attention of staff at Halifax Transit.

“I think that I’d run into them before at some transit public meetings,” said Erin Blay, supervisor of Service Design & Projects at Halifax Transit.
On Wednesday, the transit-loving teens were invited for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Ragged Lake Transit Centre.

“These are all busses that I take on an almost-daily basis. I travel to and from school on the bus every day,” said MacDonald.
“I was super excited to come here and see because it was what I wanted to do for a long time.”

The comprehensive tour included everything from the break room to the wash bay, with a chance to try out the facility’s high-tech bus simulator.
“It was great. Finn didn’t crash, I did. But we’re still three years away from our driver’s licence,” said Coward-Yaskiw, whose passion for transit piqued at age three.
Now that the Grade 8 students are back at school, they will likely have to wait until next summer to accomplish their goal of riding 67 routes in two days.
Until then, they’ll have plenty of time to ride the bus on the weekends.
