The rivalry between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders is heating up after the Labour Day game.
The Roughriders beat the Bombers 38-24 in Regina on September 3. The teams are back in action this weekend in Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl.
A big topic of discussion since the Labour Day game has been accusations the Roughriders faked injuries to slow down the Bombers.
“What a coincidence that every time the Winnipeg Blue Bomber offense tried to switch gears… there was a body of a Saskatchewan Roughrider just lying on the field,” former Bomber Doug Brown said.
“There was an injury timeout so they effectively interrupted the Winnipeg offense from being able to do that anytime they wanted to.”

Brown was commentating on the game with 680 CJOB’s Bob Irving.
“We remarked, Bob Irving and myself up in the booth… we’ve seen fake injuries in football before they happen but we’ve never seen them this deliberately put out to stop and offensive set or series before,” Brown said.
After writing about the game this week, Brown received many mean tweets from Roughriders fans.
As for the upcoming Banjo Bowl, Brown believes the team needs to regain the characteristics that have made them a successful team this season.
“That’s ball security, taking away the football, eliminating their own turnovers, Matt Nichols is very secure for the most part usually with the football and they sport a defense that is excellent at taking the football away,” Brown said.
“As long as they don’t dig themselves a hole at home I think they’ll be fine.”
