Bomber Nation heads to enemy territory

They might not outnumber those in green, but Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans are going to make sure they’re heard Sunday in Regina.

Hundreds of people from Winnipeg are expected to make the trip west to the annual Labour Day Classic tilt between the Blue Bombers and the Saskatachewan Roughriders — including a massive group that took off Saturday from Portage Avenue.

All-Star Tours has been making the trip to Regina for 16 years. This year, one hundred fans in blue and gold jumped into their two buses parked in Winnipeg and started the party a day early.

Brett Sylvester, who owns All-Star Tours, said the event is unlike any other.

“We’ve had a blast with this,” Sylvester said.

“Every year we always wait for this to come. Bomber Nation is pretty excited.”

The buses departed from Winnipeg early Saturday morning and come back following one of the biggest games on the CFL schedule.

This year, the group heading to Regina is almost double what it was in 2016; a change Sylvester chalks up to the vast improvement in the Bombers, who will be playing for first place in the league Sunday.

“If they keep playing the way they are, it might have to be three or four buses next year,” Sylvester said.
