Investigators were called to the 6300 block of 31 Avenue N.W. at around 7:15 a.m. after a passerby found a barrel with the word “explosives” on it sitting outside the home.

Officers cordoned off area roads and the Calgary Police Service bomb disposal unit was brought in to investigate.

Bomb technicians were able to neutralize the package at around 10:30 a.m., destroying the barrel. As of noon, police said the area was again safe for the public.

In a Wednesday news release, police said it’s not known why the package was left.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or to contact Crime Stoppers.
