Investigators looking into suspicious house fire in Vaughan

No injuries were reported following a two-alarm house fire in Vaughan overnight.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly before 2 a.m. on Mellings Drive near Weston Road and Rutherford Road.

Firefighters arrived and located the roof of the residence engulfed in flames.

Authorities said no one was inside the home when the fire broke out.

Officials suspect the fire may have been deliberately set. The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified.

The house fire is located on the same street where gunshots rang out on two separate occasions this summer.

The first incident took place in the early morning hours of June 12, when officers were called to a residence on Mellings Drive. Bullet holes were found in the front door.

Police responded to a similar call to the same residence on Mellings Drive two months later, on August 7, when bullet holes were found in the home’s front garage door.

No one was injured in either incident, police said.

Several search warrants were executed in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Mississauga areas last week which resulted in the arrests of eight people.
