Halifax police looking to speak with man in relation to suspicious incident

Halifax police say they are asking for help in identifying a man in connection to a suspicious incident that occurred at the Walmart at 220 Chain Lake Dr. in Halifax on Saturday morning.

According to police, as a mother was loading items into her vehicle at about 9:30 a.m. she looked up and saw a man she did not know holding her two-year-old son who had been seated in the shopping cart. Police say she took her child from his arms and he then walked away. She later reported the incident to police. The mother had a second young child with her at the time, but police say no incident occurred involving this child.

Police say the woman did the right thing by reporting the matter to police.

The man is described as being in his 40s, approximately six-feet-tall, with a skinny build, short blond hair, and he was wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, and dark clothing at the time of the incident.

An investigation is ongoing and police are asking the man to contact police to understand his intentions in picking up the child.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016. Anonymous calls can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
