More Philpott Road wildfire evacuees allowed to go home

Watch: More evacuees who were forced to flee the Philpott Road wildfire last week were able to return home Monday. Numerous evacuation orders were downgraded as the fire moved away from some neighbourhoods east of Kelowna. However, the community of Joe Rich is not out of the woods when it comes to being entirely safe from the nearby flames. The nearly 500 hectare wildfire remains largely uncontained. Because of progress being made on the Philpott Road wildfire, Central Okanagan Regional District Emergency Operations is allowing a further 120 evacuees from 52 Joe Rich properties to go home.

Some residents living along Sun Valley Road, Peregrine Road and one property on Goudie Road will remain on evacuation alert.

Properties now on evacuation alert include:

  • 6785 Goudie Road
  • 8315 – 8751 Peregrine Road
  • 6738 – 8011 Sun Valley Road

Returning residents are asked to stay clear of emergency vehicles and crews.

Household pets can be brought onto the properties, but larger animals like horses or livestock are not allowed back at this time, due to the changing nature of the fire.

The evacuation order remains in place for 160 properties affecting 380 residents.
