Alleged thieves grab beer while fleeing stolen truck on fire: Battlefords RCMP

Battlefords RCMP are investigating after a stolen truck was destroyed by fire last week.

At around 7:10 a.m. CT on Aug. 18, police were called to a vehicle rollover and fire in a rural area north of North Battleford, Sask.

RCMP said three individuals where seen grabbing beer from the truck and fleeing before officers arrived.

Upon arrival, police discovered the vehicle had been stolen the previous day from the 9000-block of Panton Avenue in North Battleford.

The 2016 Dodge Ram was stolen while the owner was on vacation, but he later saw it drive past his home and stop nearby.

When the owner approached the vehicle, he noted there were four to six youth dressed in black standing around it. RCMP said the owner asked for his keys to be returned and the kids proceeded to assault him.

Another youth came out of a home wielding two machetes before all of them jumped into the truck and took off. The owner of the vehicle was left with minor injuries.

This matter is still under investigation.
