The city of Brockville is experiencing a recent spike in graffiti vandalism, Brockville Police say.
Police say a number of locations were tagged last weekend, including the newly opened railway tunnel.
Most of the graffiti has already been removed, but the tagging spree has left officials on alert.
“We thought we had better people in our community, obviously we were wrong,” said Police Chief Scott Fraser. “We have a real good group of people and it’s unfortunate that a small percentage puts a black eye on it for everyone.”
The washrooms in Hardy Park, Block House Island and the splash pad were all recently tagged.
“The reality is, it happens less and less — but when it does happen, it’s very stark,” said Brockville Mayor Dave Henderson.
The tagging comes on the heels of another highly publicized vandalism case in the city.
A restored piano in Hardy Park was damaged beyond repair a few weeks ago.
Police are hoping someone will come forward with security or cellphone video of the incident, or that someone recognizes the specific tag.
