Separate crashes on Nova Scotia’s Highway 102 leaves one man dead, traffic snarled

Two separate crashes on Highway 102 Wednesday morning have left one man dead and another injured.

Halifax Regional Police are investigating both collisions and had closed a portion of the 102 for most of the morning.

Officers were called to the first crash, a single vehicle collision, at 7:12 a.m.

A tractor-trailer left the road and ended up in the ditch of Highway 102 between Lacewood Drive and Kearney Lake Road.

A 57-year-old, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was found unconscious when police arrived. He was transported by Emergency Health Services to a hospital but later died.

Two hours later, at 9:10 a.m., police responded to a collision between a pickup and an HRP motorcycle that had been there to direct traffic after the previous accident.

The driver of the pickup truck, the lone occupant of the vehicle was treated by EHS for non-life threatening injuries.

The officer avoided injury by jumping into the nearby median to avoid getting hit.

The 102 has since re-opened.
