Toronto police have confirmed they’re treating the deaths of two young women in Etobicoke as suspicious.
Emergency crews arrived on scene at a building on Eva Road, just northeast of Bloor Street and Highway 427 before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and found two women in a condo unit without vital signs.

Toronto Paramedics said the women died at the scene. A spokesperson said the deaths are being investigated as possible overdoses.
Police said the women were both 18 years of age and were discovered by a close friend in the residential highrise.
“There are no obvious signs of foul play or obvious trauma to their bodies,” Toronto police Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook told AM 640. “However, because of the uncertainty there will be a post-mortem today, and it is being treated as suspicious until we can prove otherwise.”

Meanwhile, late last week Toronto police put out a public safety alert due to a recent spike in overdose-related calls. Police said four people died due to suspected overdoses and 20 people were treated at hospital between Thursday and Saturday.
Mayor John Tory has called an emergency meeting Thursday morning with Toronto public health staff and first responders.
“These are unimaginable tragedies. These are young people in many cases who are somebody’s son or daughter in the beginning of their life and to have them lose their lives because of preventable activity is something that is very disturbing to me as the mayor,” Tory said Wednesday.
