COMMENTARY: Scaramucci firing part of a much bigger problem

The train wreck that is the Trump administration was derailed again yesterday with the firing of Anthony Scaramucci  after less than two weeks on the job.

Scaramucci is the seventh senior White House aide to be turfed in only the sixth month of Trump’s reign of error, and while Scaramucci’s profanity-laced tirade toward White House staffers made headlines, we shouldn’t lose sight of a much larger concern about Trump’s administration.

Let’s not forget that it was Trump who hand picked these people and the fact that seven of them have been  dumped in only six months raises serious questions about Trump’s alleged business skills.

So why should this matter to Canada and other G-8 nations?

Canada is about to enter into negotiations for a revised NAFTA agreement which will have serious economic implications for Canadians.

The nuclear threat in North Korea has ramped up considerably and tensions in eastern Europe and the Middle East are increasing.

Trump has shown that, contrary to his own bombast, he makes bad choices and misleading statements and he has a less than rudimentary understanding of world affairs. Those facts are not lost on other world leaders, both friends and foes of the United States.

The chaotic atmosphere of the Trump White House is cause for concern both at home and abroad, but then, what did we expect when Americans chose a narcissistic realty TV star to be their leader?
