London Police Sergeant Mark McGugan says the incident happened at Fanshawe Park Road E. and North Centre Road around 1:45 p.m.. It involved an SUV, a car, and a pick-up truck pulling a camping trailer.

The woman, a pedestrian crossing the busy intersection, was hit by a vehicle trying to swerve the first crash.

“We believe the second [crash] occurred as a result of the first one,” said McGugan.

“At this point, everything is still under investigation as far as which vehicle was going which way, and who hit who.”

The London Fire Department, EMS, and police all responded to the call, which caused delays for around two hours. Traffic was directed through nearby parking lots until roughly 3:30 p.m., as accident reconstruction personnel attended the scene, and police officers spoke with witnesses.

McGugan adds that speed and loud-playing radios can often be an issue during the summer months; he’s reminding drivers to always be attentive behind the wheel.

“It’s nice weather, everybody is out, but not everybody is paying attention. Lots of kids out on the street, lots of kids out on bikes. We want everyone to be careful.”

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
