Fire damages vacant home in Surrey

A vacant home in Surrey was heavily damaged after a fire broke out overnight but crews were able to keep it from spreading to another home.

Crews arrived at the home near 132 Street and 80 Avenue to find it fully engulfed.

Flames were shooting out the front and rear of the second level but crews put it out before it jumped to the neighbouring home.

Fire investigators will be back later this morning to determine a cause.

“This home is a home that’s had fires in the past,” said Surrey fire Battalion Chief Brian Carmichael. “It’s a vacant home that was boarded up so crews had to spend extra time cutting [the boards] to get an interior attack but the majority of the fight was to the exterior.”
