2 men dead, woman in serious condition after shooting at birthday party in Scarborough

Police say witnesses are not co-operating with an investigation into a shooting at a backyard birthday party that left two men dead and sent a woman to hospital.

Toronto police said officers responded to a call about shots fired around 1 a.m. at Gennela Square and Morningview Trail.

Det. Rob North says officers arrived on scene where many of the 200 people attending the party were running from the scene.

North said the two men, identified as Dwayne Campbell, 30, and Rinaldo Cole, 33, were pronounced dead on scene.

Paramedics said they transferred the female victim, a woman in her 20s who was celebrating her birthday, to hospital with at least one gunshot wound to the torso. She is currently in serious but stable condition.

North said very few attendees are co-operating with police and that it is too early to know whether the shooter or shooters were guests at the party.

Neighbour Aria Bashir told Global News she could see the party from her backyard, but that it is the sounds that will haunt her.

“The DJ stopped the music. He said, ‘Hold on hold on’ and there was a lot of screaming and crying,” she said.

“The whole thing has been replaying in my mind all night.”

There is no further suspect information at this time.

North added that both men and the woman were known to police.
