The teen from Shediac was driving a small car that collided with a pickup in Boudreau-Ouest on Monday at around 7:15 p.m., police said.

“She made her stop at the intersection and engaged into traffic unsafely,” RCMP Cpl. Gabriel Deveau said Tuesday.

“She either failed to look twice, or misjudged how much time she had, and got hit by an oncoming vehicle … The only person who really knows what happened there is unfortunately deceased. It could have been the sun in her eyes.”

The teen, who was driving a Pontiac Wave, was hit by the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup, Deveau said.

Firefighters, paramedics and police arrived on the scene within minutes. But the girl, who was still in high school, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was unharmed.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.
