An autopsy done on a man who was found dead near MacEwan University early Sunday morning confirmed he was the victim of a homicide.
Edmonton police identified him as 25-year-old Mahamoud Mahdi Nur.
He died from multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner said.
Edmonton police responded at around 1 a.m. to reports of multiple gunshots fired near Jasper Avenue and 116 Street. A witness told Global News he heard six to eight shots and then some yelling and screaming.
“Members arrived and they quickly determined that a male and a female had been shot, but had since left the area in a black SUV,” Edmonton police Insp. James Vanderland said.
Nur was then found dead on the road near 109 Street and 104 Avenue by emergency personnel working in the area.

“The information I received is that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed to get the victims to hospital, and upon cornering he was ejected from the vehicle,” Vanderland explained.
The woman and other man were being treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The EPS homicide section continues to investigate this shooting.
