Canada 150 events and fireworks in London

Canada turns 150 on Saturday and celebrations are being held across London. There are a number of events, festivals and fireworks displays taking place over the holiday weekend. For a list of what’s open and closed this holiday weekend click here.

Events

  • You can celebrate Canada’s birthday for four straight days at Sesquifest in downtown London. Residents can check out a synthetic outdoor ice rink, kids zone, multicultural events, beer gardens, and the SESQUI dome. The dome gives visitors a 360-degree virtual reality tour of Canada.
  • Fanshawe Pioneer Village will host a full day of free activities to celebrate Dominion Day —what Canada Day was officially called before July 1, 1982 — on Saturday.
  • Eldon House is hosting a Confederation party. You can enjoy tours of historic Eldon House, carnival games on the grounds as well as music and history-themed performances.
  • A full slate of Canada Day activities are taking place in Harris Park on Saturday. The day begins with a First Nations gathering at 12 p.m., followed by a citizenship ceremony at 2 p.m. Exhibits and vendors will be set up in the park and admission is free.
  • Museum London is open for Canada’s 150th birthday bash. Drop in and view the brand new exhibition Canada and London: 150 years of growing together.
  • Join Storybook Gardens to celebrate Canada’s 150th on Saturday.
  • Spend Canada Day in the great outdoors at Fanshawe Conservation Area. There will be a BBQ and a full slate of family activities starting at 11 a.m.
  • The London Majors host the Toronto Maple Leafs at Labatt Park on Saturday at 6 p.m. After the baseball game, watch fireworks over the river forks.
  • Delaware Speedway is hosting a doubleheader of racing Friday and Saturday.
  • The City of London’s 12 outdoor pools and 11 wading pools are opening for the season on Canada Day.
  • The Trackside Music Festival is back for its second year. The lineup features Thomas Rhett, Kip Moore, Brothers Osborne and more at the Western Fair District.

Fireworks

  • Harris Park will play host to London’s largest fireworks display starting at approximately 10 p.m.
  • At White Oaks Park, a drone light show and fireworks display starts at 9:45 p.m.
  • Argyle arena, the Optimist Club of East London is hosting a fireworks display at dusk.
  • The Byron Sports Complex will have a fireworks display at dusk.
  • Meadowgate park will have fireworks at 10 p.m.
