Benoit Pouliot’s days as an Edmonton Oiler are over.
On Thursday, the Oilers announced they’ve placed Pouliot on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract.

Pouliot, 30, signed with the Oilers as a free agent in the summer of 2014. The left winger has two years remaining on that five-year, $20-million deal. The buyout will cost the Oilers $1.33-million towards the salary cap over the next four seasons.
Pouliot battled injuries and inconsistent play during his tenure in Edmonton. He had 34 points in 58 games in 2014/15 and 36 points in 55 games in 2015/16. In 2016/17, he played more games (67) but had only 14 points.
