Kelowna RCMP rule out foul play in sudden death

UPDATE:  The Kelowna RCMP are now able to confire the death reported as suspicious on June 24 is no longer considered suspicious.

RCMP have determined no foul play was involved.

The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.

Kelowna RCMP are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the death of a 48-year-old West Kelowna man.

The man was discovered deceased at around 3 a.m. Saturday morning in a parking lot in the 1900-block of Pacific Court in Kelowna.

Police say they responded to an abandoned 9-1-1 call  made from a cell phone.  The approximate location information was obtained from the cell phone provider.

Officers searched the immediate area and located the deceased male, along with the cell phone used to make the 9-1-1 call, in the parking lot of a nearby apartment building.

“RCMP have been unable to determine a clear cause of death during the initial stages of the investigation into the man’s death,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said.  “As such the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) has assumed conduct of the investigation which is continuing at this time and will include an autopsy of the deceased.”

RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance to identify an unknown female caught on surveillance video, who police believe may possess valuable information in this investigation.
