A 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with a May robbery after posting a live social media video on the weekend in which a gun was reportedly seen.
Peel Regional Police said officers were contacted on Saturday by someone who saw a man “live streaming himself on a social media app while in possession of what was believed to be a prohibited firearm.”
After police began investigating, a search warrant was obtained for a Brampton home and two males were arrested. Officers found two replica firearms.
Police wouldn’t say where the video was live streamed, what exactly was said or displayed in the video, or how it was connected to an ongoing investigation.
Troy Townsend was charged with robbery and disguise with intent in connection with the robbery of a convenience store on May 6 near Dixie Road and North Park Drive, south of Bovaird Drive East.
He was scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on Sunday for a bail hearing.
