There’s some good news for Calgarians who enjoy a safe, relaxing float down the Bow River: improving conditions mean the city has lifted the boating advisory that was issued June 1.
“The flow rate has stabilized below the 280 m3/s trigger point and river conditions have improved,” Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke said in a statement. “At this level, people can resume normal activities on the river.”

The city monitors flow levels and issues advisories when the flow rate goes over 280 m3/s.
Melting snow and floating debris can create dangerous conditions for river-goers, which is why advisories are often issued as the weather gets warmer.

The city encourages people to always wear life jackets and avoid “venturing” out on the river when intoxicated.
