A massive fire engulfed a London apartment tower on Wednesday, leaving at least 12 people dead and dozens injured. Firefighters spent the day and night battling the blaze, but it was still burning over 12 hours later. Many residents were trapped in their apartments and panicking, threw children and babies out the windows to people waiting below, witnesses said.

The fire lit up the London sky and as it began to burn out, sent up huge plumes of smoke.

Firefighters worked hard to battle the flames, but at times stopped and stared.
