Running a marathon is challenging enough for most people — but what about four in a row?
On Friday morning, a handful of self-identified “crazy people” will embark on a 100-mile trail race — that’s 160 kilometres, almost equal to four marathons.

They’re taking part in the two-day River Valley Revenge Ultramarathon, which offers distances from five kilometres for beginners and up to 100 miles for the crazy people.
It’s the first time a race of that distance has taken place in Edmonton, and it will all be on the dirt trails of the North Saskatchewan River valley. No smooth pavement here, folks.
The course will tour the river valley in an 80.5-kilometre loop that stretches almost Henday-to-Henday, and includes many sections of single track trails, two nature preserves, and scenic views of the city. It starts at the Alfred Savage Center, just off Fox Drive and Whitemud Drive.
While the 100-mile runners begin their trek on Friday, the rest of the races will take place on Saturday. Runners will take on 100-kilometre, 50-mile, 50-kilometre, 25-kilometre and 5-kilometre stretches.
More to come…
