16-year-old arrested after encouraging students to bring weapons to Brampton school: police

Peel Regional Police have arrested a 16-year-old girl after officers allege she encouraged fellow students to bring weapons to school on Monday.

Police said they became aware of the message, which was posted to Snapchat, on Sunday.

Investigators said the girl wanted the weapons to be brought to St. Edmund Campion Secondary School in Brampton on Monday so the school day would be disrupted.

Police said the social media post advised that no one should be harmed and the intention was to cause a lockdown.

Officers went to the school Monday morning and arrested the girl, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

There are no reports of anyone actually bringing weapons to the school Monday and there were no disruptions to class schedules, police said.

Charges haven’t been laid yet, but a Peel police spokesperson told Global News public mischief, uttering threats and criminal harassment charges could be laid.
