Missing 86-year-old Edmonton man returns home: police

The Edmonton Police Service said an 86-year-old man reported missing on Friday returned home safely on Saturday.

Donald Switzer went missing in the area of 101 Street and 100 Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. Police said he was out with his family and at one point was alone in the family car. When his relatives came back to where the car was, it was gone, along with Switzer and the family dog.

Police said Switzer suffers from dementia and “will be disoriented and lost.”

Police said a resident spotted Switzer at around 5 a.m. Saturday in the area of 97 Street and 132 Avenue and called police. The citizen was able to follow the missing senior to the area of 128 Avenue and 82 Street, but police said by the time they arrived, Switzer was gone.

Switzer returned home at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
