New Brunswick RCMP seize 200,000 illegal cigarettes in 2 traffic stops

New Brunswick RCMP have seized 200,000 illegal cigarettes as the result of two traffic stops this week.

According to police, officers found 60,00 illegal cigarettes in a vehicle during a traffic stop on May 30 in Waterville.

The 72-year-old male driver from Souris, P.E.I., was arrested and released pending a court date in September.

On May 31, RCMP stopped a vehicle in Saint-Jacques, N.B., near the Quebec border.

Two men, a 39-year-old and a 63-year-old, were both arrested and then released.

Both men were from Saint John and are scheduled for a court date in September.

RCMP do not believe the seizures to be related.
