21 mayors from across Canada are in Ottawa for the Big City Mayors’ Caucus meeting this week.
The meeting is part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities annual conference.
Mayor Brian Bowman is there and says a number of issues are on the table.
“Infrastructure, trade, the opioid crisis, not to mention public transportation and housing,” Bowman told 680 CJOB’s Geoff Currier.
Bowman wants to make sure he gets answers from Ottawa on infrastructure spending.
“There’s over half-a-billion dollars in federal infrastructure dollars that remain unallocated in Manitoba. It’s critical that we learn what the federal government’s plans are for the next round of infrastructure, and also work in partnership with the province to ensure Winnipeg receives its fair share.”
Bowman believes the caucus is making a difference, citing its work on the opioid crisis.
“We do have a voice. This crisis is affecting communities across Canada, including here in Winnipeg. We are coming together to recommend ways to address it.”
The Big City Mayor’s Caucus meeting and FCM Conference and Trade Show run from June 1 until June 4 in Ottawa.
