High school students in the north Okanagan are demonstrating what community spirit is all about.
On Thursday morning, grade eight and nine students from Vernon Secondary voted to opt out of a planned hike and instead make sandbags to help people affected by the ongoing threat of flooding.
The sandbags will help protect homes along Kal Lake in Coldsstream, some of which have already been damaged by flood waters.
In addition to delivering some of the sandbags to flood-prone homes, a pile of sandbags has been prepared by the students and ready for pick-up for anyone who is in need.
The sandbags can be found on Kalamalka Road near Alexander’s Pub.
Students from Kalamalka Lake Secondary have also been making sandbags and lending a helping hand to those impacted by flooding.
