Edmonton police service dog attacked by another dog

Just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, an Edmonton police K-9 unit was following a stolen vehicle in the Beverly area.

It was pulled over near 34 Street and 119 Avenue.

After being pulled over, several passengers jumped out and ran away before a pit bull leaped out and attacked a police service dog.

Police Service Dog Amok was attacked and it took several jolts with a stun gun and cans of pepper spray to subdue the pit bull.

Police stressed the dog broke free and was not given a command to attack.

Amok was rushed to a 24-hour vet clinic with minor facial injuries and the pit bull was taken to the pound.

The driver of the vehicle, who did not run, is in custody.

Shaelene Rabbit, 31, has been charged with one count of stolen property under $5,000.

The three other people who fled have not been found.
