Lake Country filling vacant council seats

The District of Lake Country, in the Central Okanagan, is moving to fill two council seats left vacant after one councillor resigned to take a job with the district and another passed away.

Matt Vader, the former Carr’s Landing councillor, stepped down in March. Three candidates are vying to replace him in a byelection scheduled for June 24.

They are lawyer D. Oscar Barnes, Joanne de Vries, who works in communications, and Jeanette Lambert who has most recently been working as a controller for Okanagan businesses. Full biographies of the candidates are available on the municipality’s website.

The Oyama council seat was also left vacant in March when councillor Owen Dickie passed away.

That seat will be filled by Todd McKenzie. He was acclaimed because no other candidates came forward to compete for the role.
