UBC international student Louis Gonick was dropped off in Stanley Park before disappearing

The family of missing 21-year-old Louis Gonick has now travelled to Vancouver from Ecuador to plead for any updates on the missing UBC student.

It has now been over a month since 21-year-old Louis Gonick disappeared and friends and family are getting desperate for any information about his whereabouts.

“You live deep in the hearts of us that have the pleasure of knowing you,” Gonick’s mother, Lupe Carrera, said in a statement through a Spanish translator. “Life has no meaning without you in it.”

The family has now set up a GoFundMe to raise money for a private investigator to try and find out what happened to Gonick.

She said Gonick is the best son a mother could imagine. “We are waiting for you with our arms wide open,” Carrera continued in the statement. “Please come back.”

RCMP say Gonick was last seen Sunday, April 16. S/Sgt. Annie Linteau, senior media relations officer with “E” Division Communication Services, says they have learned that on April 16, Gonick called a local taxi company and was dropped off in Stanley Park. She said Gonick asked to be let out specifically near the bridge turnout. To date, there has been no evidence Gonick met with foul play but he has not been seen since.

Linteau says Gonick’s last known whereabouts was when he was dropped off near the Stanley Park Causeway at 7:32 p.m. She said they are aware of the fact Gonick may have chosen to disappear or possibly end his life.

Gonick, an international student from Ecuador, is described as Hispanic, 5’6″ tall, 141 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last known to be wearing a dark blue shirt, blue jeans, dark blue jacket and grey scarf.

He is attending UBC on a scholarship from Ecuador and had been there for about three years.

Linteau says RCMP has reviewed a number of tips about Gonick’s disappearance. An extensive land and sea search has been conducted, involving Coast Guard and Transit Police.

They are asking anyone with information about Gonick to come forward.

“This is very out of character for Mr. Gonick,” said Linteau.
