Kelowna Rocket named player of the week

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) has named forward Reid Gardiner of the Kelowna Rockets as the CHL player of the week.

The recognition comes after Reid recorded 12 points including six goals and six assists in three games, four of those goals and two of the assists were recorded in game 5 against the Portland Winterhawks at Prospera Place Friday night.

The Rockets eliminated the Winterhawks from the playoffs in a 6-2 win in that game to advance to the western conference final against the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The 21-year-old Gardiner from Humboldt, Sask., is a  fifth-year WHL veteran with 12 goals and 10 assists in 11 playoff games. That comes after a regular season campaign where he produced 37 points including 18 goals and 19 assists in 28 games after a late season trade that saw him suit up for the Rockets.

Game 1 of the WHL Western Conference Finals take place Friday night in Seattle.
