Concern that fumes from a fire in West Elgin were toxic prompted Elgin County OPP and the West Elgin Fire Department to issue an evacuation order on Furnival Line between Downie Line and Centre Street on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services responded to the call at around 9:45 a.m. in West Elgin, after an industrial accident at a business in the 12000-block of Furnival Line sparked the blaze.
The fire was in a building that contained a shop, and materials exposed to the flames generated a large volume of smoke.
The evacuation order was lifted at around 2 p.m., but Furnival Road between Downie Line and Hoskins Line remains closed.
The incident is not considered suspicious.
