Officials at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington say they need $20 million from the province to expand the hospital’s mental health services, according to The Hamilton Spectator.
The hospital’s vice-president of patient care, Cheryl Williams, says the hospital has been running between 10 and 27 per cent overcapacity since 2012.
The plan to double the number of mental health-care beds to 32 has already received support from the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network.
The proposal is under provincial consideration and also includes increased services for mental health patients who are not hospitalized.
