An alleged thief is recovering from dog bites after being tracked down by a Saskatoon police dog while fleeing from an abandoned stolen truck.
Patrol officers spotted the truck just after 4 a.m. CT on Tuesday in the area of 25th Street East and Kinsmen Avenue.

An attempt to stop the truck was unsuccessful and the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
The chase was called off by officers attempting to stop the stolen truck but other officers in the area were able to spot the truck.
Stop sticks were used on College Drive near Hospital Drive to, but the driver kept on going.
Officers then deployed stop sticks in the area of 2nd Avenue and Duchess Street.
At least one tire on the truck was shredded by stop sticks. There was also damage to the driver’s door and the front end of the truck.

The truck eventually came to a stop in the 500-block of 4th Avenue North and the driver fled on foot.
He was quickly chased down by a police dog, who put the bite on the suspect.
A search of the truck turned up brass knuckles, meth, hydromorphone and methylphemidate.
The 25-year-old Onion Lake, Sask., man is facing a number of charges including possession of stolen property, evading police, carrying a concealed weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
